A topic of recent interest to me.

From Wikipedia:

“American journalist Reihan Salam has argued in National Review Online that past a certain point in which more of more of the population have been or are currently in prison, incarceration becomes more destigmatized and crime would actually increase (akin to the Laffer curve). He stated that the U.S. is “past that point” with its incarceration rate.”
